The PVGP has its own “Terrible Towel” commemorating our co-founder, Myron Cope, who served on our Board of Directors until his passing in 2008. These special edition Terrible Towels are available on-line for $21.50 which includes shipping and handling. Proceeds benefit the PVGP charities.

“Come up with a gimmick”, the network station director told “Voice of the Steelers,” Myron Cope in the fall of 1975. “Come up with something that will get Steeler fans more into the game, I mean, really into the game…” Did he ever.
And the rest is history — six Super Bowls, a worldwide “Steeler Nation”, and over $6 millions from the sale of “Terrible Towels”, all donated to Allegheny Valley School to improve the lives of those living with autism and other intellectual/developmental disabilities.
Eight years later in 1983, racing enthusiasts proposed vintage sports car racing in Pittsburgh’s Schenley Park, with money going to charity. Myron Cope, now a broadcast icon and father to a son with autism, was asked to sell the idea to another icon – Pittsburgh Mayor Richard Caliguiri.
Sell it he did — and the rest is history — the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix became the world’s premiere vintage automotive happening. And more millions continue to be raised to help improve the lives of those served by PVGP’s charities.

Then, in February 2017, came the check presentation to the charities by the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix’s presenting sponsor, the Greater Pittsburgh Automotive Dealers Foundation. As the $405,500 donation was announced, hundreds of Terrible Towels were waved by those in attendance. More than a few PVGP volunteers present were heard to remark, “hey, Myron founded us too!”
Today, our own PVGP “Terrible Towel” captures this sentiment, commemorating our founding, and our co-founder, Myron Cope, who served on our Board of Directors and our Operating Committee until his passing in 2008. These special towels are available only from the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix.
