Our Charity Mission Remains Unchanged

For 43 years, the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix has proudly raised funds to support individuals with autism and intellectual and developmental disabilities. Through the generosity of our participants, sponsors, volunteers, and spectators, $7.2 million has been donated to organizations serving individuals and families throughout Western Pennsylvania.

For decades, Autism Pittsburgh and Merakey Allegheny Valley School have been among the primary beneficiaries of those efforts, helping to improve the lives of countless individuals and families through educational, residential, vocational, recreational, and support programs.

As the needs of our community continue to evolve, the PVGP is exploring opportunities to broaden its charitable impact while remaining true to the purpose that has guided our organization since 1983. As always, the PVGP will carefully steward these funds to maximize their impact on individuals and families throughout our region.

The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix exists because of the trust and support of our community. As we look to the future, we remain committed to building on a 43-year tradition of using the power of motorsports to raise funds and awareness for individuals with autism and intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Charity Ambassadors

Starting in 2005, the PVGP introduced its Ambassador Program by selecting a representative from our charities. The program quickly became one of the most meaningful aspects of the event, and as it grew, additional ambassadors were added to broaden its reach. Each ambassador represents the life-changing impact that the PVGP has on individuals and families throughout our community. Through educational, residential, therapeutic, and support programs, thousands of lives have been enriched and opportunities created. Our ambassadors put a face on the mission, reminding participants, sponsors, volunteers, and spectators that their generosity and involvement have a real and lasting impact on the people we serve.

Sport a New PVGP License Plate

Show your pride with your very own PVGP license plate! Replace your standard PA plate with this fully legal PVGP license plate and show your Grand Prix pride! The PVGP license plate is the brainchild of the Grand Prix’s own Scott Rupert, who worked with PennDOT to make this happen. It’s a significant fundraiser and a year-round awareness builder for our event. The plate must be ordered directly from the PVGP, and the price is only $75 to receive an assigned four-digit number. You can also create your own vanity plate for $200. Both options are available on the form below. Please allow 8-10 weeks.

The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Specialty License Plate is available for currently registered passenger vehicles, motor homes, and light trucks with a gross vehicle weight of less than 9,000 pounds. Motorcycles and trailers are not eligible. Consecutive-number plates are issued in the order applications are received and currently feature five-digit numbers in the 00300 series.

The cost of a standard PVGP plate is a one-time fee of $75. This fee is paid directly to the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Association and is separate from your normal annual PennDOT vehicle registration fees. Please make checks payable to the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Association and mail your completed application and payment to the address provided. The PVGP will coordinate all processing with PennDOT on your behalf.

Personalized vanity plates are also available for a one-time fee of $200. Applicants requesting a standard consecutive-number plate should complete Page 2 of the application. Those requesting a personalized vanity plate should complete Page 3. All required vehicle information can be found on your vehicle registration card.

License plate applications are submitted to PennDOT in monthly batches. Once an order is placed, PennDOT typically requires 8 to 10 weeks to manufacture and mail the plate directly to the vehicle owner. Please allow up to 12 weeks for the entire process.

Donate Your Used Car, Truck, RV or Boat to the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix and Help Fuel our Charities!

In partnership with Vehicles For Charity, the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix accepts pre-owned vehicles that will be auctioned to raise money for our charities. Fast, free pick-up, friendly service and better than a low trade-in or high repairs. You will also get a tax benefit while helping those less fortunate. Save yourself the work and aggravation of selling your vehicle on your own. Over the past 15 years dozens of PVGP fans have donated cars, ranging from $250 to $10,000 each. Every dollar is important to our charities.

Vehicles For Charity makes the whole process easy. They will pick up the vehicle and take it to the auction for sale. No problem if the car is not running – it will be loaded onto a flatbed truck.

  1. Give us a call at 412 559-3500 or complete the short online form
  2. Pick-up is arranged – all you need to do is have the keys and sign the vehicle title
  3. The vehicle is sold and the PVGP receives the funds
  4. You will be sent a letter that will allow you to deduct the full sale price on your taxes
  5.  Everybody wins!

Legacy Giving

The late Robert MacDowell’s estate made a $22,000 bequest to the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix from the proceeds of Robert’s award-winning 1968 Droptop Woodie Mercury Park Lane Convertible sale. It was his favorite car among the dozens of Fords he owned. He kept this Mercury for so long because he enjoyed seeing people’s reactions when they looked at it,  since most of them had never seen a convertible from this era with wood-grain side panels. He was an Edsel parts man in 1957, learned auto mechanics and bodywork, went for Ford training, and became a certified Ford mechanic in 1960. <any thanks to former chairman George Jacoby for arranging this generous donation.

Please get in touch with the PVGP for more details on donations.
