Kick-Off Rallye

Sunday July 8, 2012

PVGP Kick-Off Rallye Our Kick-Off Rallye is truly the kick-off event of the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix. It’s like a scavenger hunt on wheels. Your score is determined by how close you can follow directions and stay within posted speed limits and reach the fiinish line. You also need to answer some trivia questions along the way. No experience is necessary, just have fun. For details email Paul MacIntyre or phone at 412 673-0998 (home).

The July 8, 2012 Rallye will begin on South Craig Street in Oakland, between 5th Avenue and Forbes Avenue, and ends at the Spaghetti Warehouse at the corner of 26th Street & Smallman Street in the Strip District.

The Spaghetti Warehouse will be our host and finish line again in 2012. After you complete the Rallye everyone gathers in the large dining room for dinner, drinks and prizes. Anyone that attended last year can attest to the great Italian feast that Chris Beers and his staff prepared for us. Spaten Beer will provide complimentary adult beverages. Don’t forget to check in on Foursquare and share your pictures when you finish the Rallye!

Costs

The entry fee for a team of two is being raised to $75.00 but if you register and pay before June 1 you can take advantage of the 2011 rate of $60.00. Register online today. You can also download a PDF form and pay with a check.

2011 Wrap-Up

The 2011 Rallye was a great success. We had 96 paid entries in our field. Thanks to all of you, that is six cars over our maximum. After the rallye, everyone was treated to a true feast at the Spaghetti Warehouse, thanks to General Manager Chris Beers and the staff. The Rallye Committee isn’t sure if they will be able to top this years event, but have already started looking forward to 2012. Jeff Engbarth performed live with his acoustic guitar at the post Rallye party at the Spaghetti Warehouse. Thank you Jeff!

History

Truly unique to our Rallye is that it’s open to the public – the first 90 driver/navigator teams to sign up get to run in a timed race through the streets and neighborhoods of Pittsburgh and its suburbs. Come have fun, get lost or maybe even join the parade!

Rallyes, popular in Europe, are relatively little-known in American motorsports. A rallye master sets the course, which is designed to be completed at the posted speed limits. Then, a set of directions is drawn up for the participants. These directions can be simple or incredibly difficult clues. The key is to pass through all checkpoints on time – being late or early will penalize the driver a certain number of points. So, even of you speed, you still can lose. In true Grand Prix style, the finish line will hold a party and awards ceremony for the participants.
