Driver’s Reception at Schenley Park Visitor Center

Drivers Reception

Friday July 15, 2016
Many racers will recall the building shown above. It is the Schenley Park Cafe and Visitor Center, the 100 year old building you zoom past as you exit the Panther Hollow Bridge and pass Phipps Conservatory. Our 2014 Driver Reception was held there and we are happy to announce that we will return there this year on Friday night, July 15.

Plans are to parade the race cars there following the 5:30 drivers meeting. The plan is to leave in parade formation from the starting grid at 6:15. We encourage you to make the trip in your race car and park in front of the cafe. You can drive up in your support vehicle too, but we ask that you not park with the race cars – proceed past the cafe and park on Schenley Drive toward the Westinghouse Fountain. The event runs from approximately 6:30 until 8:00. It’s just a short drive and hopefully we can avoid any overheating and delays caused by our parade into Squirrel Hill the last several years. We plan to park you on the race track and on the Panther Hollow Bridge. The roads will be closed so the only way to drive there is on track – please observe race track rules – no counter race traffic and keep speeds under 30 mph.

A casual dinner will be provided for racers and their crew. Soft drinks, wine and Hofbrauhaus Beer will flow freely. So racers, please join us for a few hours of relaxation to reconnect with fellow drivers and PVGP race officials. It is just a small way the PVGP can thank the racers for all they do.

We are pleased to hold the event within Schenley Park and to be able to patronize the Visitor Center that is forced to close during our Race Weekend.
