PVGP HISTORICS – GENERAL INFORMATION AND FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 

GENERAL INFORMATION

Event Location

Pittsburgh International Race Complex AKA: Pitt Race or PIRC  Directions Take PA Turnpike Exit 13, take Route 18 North 3 miles, left on Penndale Road. Track is 2 miles at top of hill.

South Track Expansion:

In 2015 the Pittsburgh International Race Complex opened the new South Track in time for our event. The new 1.6 mile addition brings the total length to 2.8 miles of racing with exciting elevation changes and new straights.

Entry Confirmation:

We do not notify you if you are accepted. If your entry is rejected or in question you can expect to be notified asap. If you are accepted you will see your entry posted online by race group beginning in June.

Refund Policy:

Your race entry will be fully refunded if you notify Event Chairman before your tires hit the track on Friday morning.

Race Program Deadline:

To appear in the official race program, your entry must be received by June 1.

 

GENERAL SCHEDULE, REGISTRATION & TECH

Track gates open:

You can drop off your car any time after 5:00 PM on Wednesday, July 6; gates are open daily from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM. There is a security guard making rounds after 10:00 PM who can let you in or out if you are camping. Security guard cell phone is 724-350-4273

Registration: hours and location: Thursday 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM; and Friday 7:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Saturday 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM located next to garages on hill.

Tech hours and location:

Roving tech on Thursday 9:00 am to 5:00 PM; Friday 8:00 – noon; Saturday as needed. Cars DO NOT need to be tech’ed for the Test & Tune Day on Thursday.

ON TRACK ACTIVITIES

Special Feature:

We are hosting special groups for the weekend (Please look close at your schedule as you may be running in several groups for all of the special races we are doing this year).

Optional test day:

YES – Thursday July 7. This is not included in your race entry. Full day – $225, half day – $150. You must be a PVGP participant to participate.

Track touring, charity rides, worker rides: Candy’s Charity and worker rides Saturday & Sunday during lunch, please bring your car – this makes lots of extra money for the charity!

SPECIAL CAR REQUIREMENTS

Sound Restrictions: Yes

100 dBA, measured 50′ from track edge (most unmuffled cars are OK); quiet hours 8:00 PM Thursday July 7 to 8:00 AM Friday  July 8, Friday July 8 8:00 PM to Saturday July 9 8:00 AM and Saturday July 9 8:00 PM to 9:00 AM Sunday July 10.

Antifreeze permitted: No

Transponder Required: Yes

Yes Cars without transponders will be gridded by Timing & Scoring and will start in back.  No transponder rentals available – sorry.

CREW REQUIREMENTS

Crew passes:

Four crew included, along with driver with each race entry. Crew must check in on Thursday or Friday  and receive wrist band for entry. If crew member does not have wrist band they will be charged $15 per day at gate – please honor this rule as we are raising money for charity. Additional crew members are $25 for the entire 4-day event. Please adhere to this rule, our volunteers at the gate are instructed to charge all entrants without wrist bands. All participants must sign track waiver on first entry to the facility.

Spectator event:

YES, tickets only available at gate, $15 for one day, $25 for weekend.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

Drivers Reception:

Free driver reception for drivers and their crew at Pitt Race Conference Center. 6:00 PM- 7:30 PM Friday night.

Kart Rentals: YES

Available at the Kart track office. Open for adults and kids on Fri, Sat and Sun with a portion of the proceeds going to the PVGP charities.

Saturday Dinner: Yes

Saturday night at 6.00 PM in tent beside the garages for all.  Racer entry includes meals for driver and one crew member.  For additional dinners, please make a donation (recommended $20 per person) at the entrance.  – see signs on donation bucket.  Donation receipts available.

Friday Night Drag Races:  No

We are not hosting the Flashlight Drags in 2016. Event organizer Michael Schindel is now our Competition Chair for the races.

Lunch:

Concession stands available for you to purchase lunch.

PADDOCK

Special paddock areas

Lots of new paddock areas with pavement and hard pack! Please note that there are reserved paddocks when entering track.

Garages:

$300/weekend, see entry form.

Race fuel, air, water:

Sunoco race fuel, leaded & unleaded, various octanes, self-service pumps 24 hours with credit card, or pay cash at office. Compressed air & water in garage area.

Tires:

No tire suppliers are committed yet.

Food available:

Food vendor in building on site daily for breakfast & lunch.

Rules for ATV’s, scooters, pit bikes, golf carts, bicycles:

Allowed, no permit required.  Motorized vehicles operated by adults only, bicycles OK for kids.  Please use caution and reasonable speeds.

Pets allowed:

YES, please keep on leash and please clean up after your pet.

Motorhome/camping at track?  YES

FREE, arranged for by the PVGP as part of their facility contract.  Showers & bathrooms in the conference center / garage building.  Note – electrical service is no longer available in the paddock area.

Track gates open overnight? Gates closed overnight but Security Guard will be making rounds and can let you in or out.

Tent camping at track:

YES – no charge, get pass at office.

ENTRY FORMS

For 2016 we are using a dual entry form to apply for both the Pitt Race and Schenley Park race weekends. Race groups at Schenley have been expanded so if you would like to participate on both weekends see if you are eligible: Qualified Cars for Schenley Park.

Donations

The following are the suggested donations for participating in the PVGP Historic Races. Your donation is tax deductible. Any additional donation to the PVGP is appreciated and is tax deductible as well. Please print a copy of your registration as an acknowledgement of your contribution to the PVGP.

  • Earlybird Discount Posted by June 1: $500
  • Regular Entry Posted after June 1: $550
  • 2nd Car/Same Driver Additional flat fee: $200
  • Thursday Test & Tune Full Day: $225 Half Day: $150
  • Saturday Party/Dinner is free for drivers and one crew member. Additional crew is $20 each.
  • Garage Rental $300 Holds one large car or two very small cars

Discounts:

Discounts given for entering both race weekends. Must be same driver, but does not have to be same car. Early $850 (before June 1) Regular $950 (after June 1)
