PVGP Driver’s School at Pitt Race Complex
Thursday July 5, 2018
The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix is hosting a Driver’s School at Pittsburgh International Race Complex. The school is held in conjunction with our PVGP Historics Race Weekend during the Test & Tune Sessions on Thursday July 5.
The school is conducted by E. Paul Dickinson and his team at Track Instruction Program (TIPs). Students that successfully complete the school and race in subsequent weekend without incident will be issued a Vintage Motorsports Council (VMC) Competition license.
Due to the stunning growth of vintage racing over the past decade, vintage events can now be found virtually year-round somewhere in North America. So, if you plan on racing a lot with other clubs, you may wish to also obtain a VMC Racing License. One VMC function is to issue a national vintage competition license which is accepted at other vintage clubs across the country. To apply you must be a member in good standing of one of the VMC organizations. Your application should be sent to your host organization in order that they may affirm your status and that you meet certain safe driving requirements. Upon their approval and endorsement, they forward your completed application to the VMC Secretary who then issues your VMC completion license.
You must supply your own car for the school and it must have a roll bar and safety belts. Several of the sessions will be wheel to wheel. While it does not have to be a vintage or historic car for you to use at the school, your car must qualify to race on the weekend if you wish to receive your license at the same time.
To receive your PVGP Vintage Driver’s Competition License you must complete the Thursday Driver School (both classroom and track) and then enter the subsequent PVGP Historic Races on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. If you finish the race weekend without incident and receive the approval of our TIPs instructors you will become licensed and will be able to race with us at Schenley Park on the following weekend.
Students will spend the entire day at the Pitt Race Complex starting at 7:15 AM. There will be a combination of classroom training, track touring, a track walk and on-track driving. A boxed lunch will be included.
Registration can be done through our on-line Race Registration link in the far right column.
