SCCA SOLO AUTOCROSS
BeaveRun - July 17/18, 2010

The Steel Cities Region of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) will host a Solo II event (Autocross) in conjunction with the 2010 PVGP during our Historic Races at BeaveRun. So participate and be a part of the action!

Registration is open from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM and the first car is off at 10:00 AM.  Runs will continue through the day, wrapping up around 5 PM. SCCA Solo events are all about a driver's ability to accurately and precisely maneuver around a pylon-marked course in the fastest time possible.  Courses are designed such that the top speed achieved is similar to what cars reach on everyday roads, and cars run one at a time, with minimal chances of accidents.  Safety, both for the driver and the car, has a high emphasis, but that doesn't mean you're not pushing your car to the limits, so come join us and test your car control ability! Cars are classed by various factors, including horsepower, suspension,  and aftermarket modifications - so you will be competing against similar vehicles.

The event will be held on the Vehicle Dynamics Area (VDA) at BeaveRun.  Your car will have to pass a technical inspection, and helmets (Snell 90 or better) are required (we have a few loaner helmets available). When you aren't driving the course, you will either be working the course or resting (a good chance to view the Vintage races on the North Course!).

Cost
Cost The 2 day event fee is only $75.00 for both SCCA members and non-members - which includes:
- Autocross entry fee for one car
- Weekend entry into BeaveRun for driver and one crew
- Trophy eligibility
- Dinner and free beer with racers and volunteers on Saturday night

Single day pricing is also available. All proceeds from the event will be donated to PVGP charities.

Karting
New for 2010, the kart track will be open if you want to give it a go. $20.00 for 20 minutes with a portion of the proceeds going to the PVGP Charities.

What is Autocross and Solo II ?

Autocross is one of the fastest growing form of motorsport today is one in which the deftness of the driver and agility of the car is more important than pure speed. This sport is called Autocross or Solo II. Imagine a track meet on wheels. You approach the starting line one at a time, helmet on, firmly belted into your car. You look onto a large parking lot that has been transformed into a complex serpentine course with the addition of a large number of traffic cones and white gypsum lines. Your challenge is to try to drive through this course as quickly as possible without hitting the cones. Each displaced cone adds two seconds to your score. Essentially it's you against the clock, figured to 1/1000th of a second. Even though this may sound difficult, it is great fun and leads to a great deal of satisfaction when you do it right. The secret to winning is usually taking the best "line" through the course while maintaining speed and smoothness, but sometimes slower is faster. During a run, which usually lasts about one minute, you will make thousands of driving decisions and really feel the car working under you.

Autocross is a low budget, low pressure sport in which almost anyone can participate, usually in the same car they drive to work. It is a safe, fun way to experience the thrills of competition driving.
